Matt Brabham continued his domination of this year’s Stadium Super Trucks championship with a race win and overall victory in front of a home crowd on the streets of Surfers Paradise, Queensland today.
Brabham finished second in yesterday’s opening event to Robby Gordon, but managed to avoid the late-race carnage today to clinch a victory from fellow Gold Coaster, Paul Morris.
Matt Brabham won the final Stadium Super Trucks race of the weekend with an opportunistic pass on the final lap.
Cole Potts led for the first half of the race until the Lap 5 Competition Caution before Paul Morris and Bill Hynes both got past on the restart.
Potts re-took the lead at the end of Lap 9, but was then turned around by Morris at Turn 4 on the final lap, with Brabham taking advantage of the chaos to move into the lead, cutting up the inside.
Brabham won by almost two seconds in front of Morris in second, while Hynes fended off Gordon for third.
Brabham was overall winner for the weekend ahead of Gordon and Morris.
A venue for the next round of the championship in the US has not been confirmed.
WHAT MATT BRBAHAM HAS TO SAY….
“That was a crazy race today to cap off a crazy weekend,” said Brabham.
“There was just so much going on, but I managed to stay out of major trouble and get by Paul on the final lap.
“It was terrific to get the win for all my family and friends here this weekend.
“While I live in the US, the Gold Coast is where I was born and bred and The Southport School where I went to school is just across the river.
“It is great to have the Stadium Super Trucks back at this event after a year off and it is great that an Australian championship has been announced for next year.
“I have to thank my full-time sponsors DeVilbiss and Headstrong for their support all year and Tony Longhurst from The Boat Works. It was cool to take the winner’s trophy for them this weekend.”
